Maxine Helmey (1937- 2024)

Born in McRae, GA Maxine loved to dance, and was a dance instructor and hair stylist before she picked up a paint brush in 1982 in Augusta, GA. Returning to Savannah in the 90’s,

she became one of Savannah’s top artists, known for her watercolors, acrylics and oils of the local architecture and landscapes. She had several galleries in the City Market area into the early 2000’s showcasing her work, which received numerous awards and has been collected by many.
